A Gift of Pearls

 

The days of our lives are a Gift of Pearls presented at birth and unwrapped for us by our parents, from the first little orb, small, almost imperceptible and unimpressive, each sphere grows in size and lustrousness, slowly graduating in diameter through proper nutrition and education ,growing and building as each globe become more beautiful and lustrous, until we reach the Pendant Pearl, the most impressive Pearl, the largest and most beautiful of all, at the zenith of our success, strength, mental acuity and health, the apex of our lives. Slowly like the summer solstice as the days become incrementally shorter, almost imperceptibly at first and continuing until it is more noticeable, each Pearl is now slightly reduced in size and lustrousness as we begin that long slow spiraling descent to the smallest and least impressive Pearls at the end of the string. We become aware now that they are finite and not infinite as we gaze across the lobster clasp, it is noticeable how similar these Pearl days are to those very first days at the beginning of life. Each Pearl day is a precious gem that should not be squandered whether it occurs on a dreary, gray day in life’s Winter or a beautiful, sunny day in life’s Spring. They should be lived to their fullest potential, not letting them slip through our fingers like grains of sand on the beach and fully enjoyed before it is time to wrap them up and put them away again.
