Teach Me to Dance

I was never very good at dancing

Especially close up being held dancing

Touch is a funny thing to me, not safe, untrusting, and weird

Sometimes I would try but I quickly ran away

Dancing separate is acceptable but I was so awkward

But I long to dance, desire, yearn, crave and thirst for the chance to be held and swayed to music

Any music, from instruments or the wind or from the rhythm of life or silence of the night

Would you teach me to dance?

I’ll give it one more try

I’ll allow you to hold me and I won’t run away

I’ll let you whisper in my ear melodies from your breath

Dance replied:

Stand under leaves and feel the sway and rustle

Go to the ocean and feel the power of crashing waves at your feet

Follow volcanos and feel the drenching heat

Sit in the warm sun and feel safety

Dance continued:

I know you are afraid

I will not leave until you let me wrap you in arms of brilliant confidence.

It will be you who embraces dance and you who will beckon the wind and ocean and leaves and volcanoes

And they will run to you.

I answered:

I am ready Dance, let’s start with a waltz around the forest. One Two Three, One Two Three.
