The baby Elephant was fitted with a steel
collar around its rear left leg and chained to a post.
The baby Elephant did not like the restraint
and pulled and tugged with all his might until his hide began to cut.
As he grew larger, thicker collars with
stronger chains were used to hold his increasing size and strength, until his
spirit was broken and he accepted this situation as his lot in life.
The Elephant grew to be a huge bull
elephant with long tusks. He was extremely strong and capable of great work.
At the end of each day’s work, he was chained
to the post which had held him as a baby. The Elephant could now easily tear
the post from the ground and disappear into the forest free to live his life as
he pleased. The Elephant did not believe that this was possible and therefore
did not try.
Moral:
Do not assume that
old issues that thwarted your success in the past, can hold you back now from
realizing your dreams.
