She had never felt so free, so sure. From this great height, everything was clear. All she had to do was jump and let the parachute release at the appointed moment. Wow!
All the sessions to prepare for this jump were now going to be put to the test. She was sweating and nauseous but just slightly. This was how she felt before taking an exam she knew she was prepared and ready but the threat of the unexpected always hung in the air. “Well, it’s now or never,” she shouted even if nobody could hear her yelling amidst all the engines and last-minute checks.
She was up next and no matter how much trepidation she experienced she wasn’t backing out. This was the day she would know what it felt like to float in the sky the way the winged creatures she had admired and observed since she was a child did. She loved watching all kinds of birds as they flew from tree branches to dirt in the front and back yards. During winter months she’d watch them from her living room as they lined up on the telephone wires and took off in synchronized flight formations.
These amazing avian marvels simply fascinated her. Their colors, feathers, wingspan, song and instincts astounded her. It was time; her partner, Jim, grabbed her hand and pulled her to the door.
“Ah, this
is it! “Off we go into the wild blue yonder, she wanted to sing but not till
the parachute opened.
